Dinos Don't Do Yoga

Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.
— Fyodor Dostoevsky

Congratulations to author Catherine Bailey and illustrator Alex Willmore on their new book, Dinos Don’t Do Yoga, that released just last week. Okay so it isn’t Crime and Punishment but a sweet fable for ages 4-8, which, at its heart, is about a fear of change. I acquired and edited this book for Sounds True—and I felt a kinship with grumpy Rex, seen below, from the moment I met him in the book’s text:

Rex feels threatened when a new dinosaur moves to town—a dinosaur named Sam who introduces everyone to yoga, clad in the cutest burnt-orange yoga outfit. In many ways, as a child, I was Rex—often scared of anything that might mess with my comfort zone. But like Rex, often a tremendous joy was on the other side of the change that I feared. And I think a lot of kids can relate to Rex’s grumpiness these days. The book is lovely. And when he opens up to the new Yogasaur and to a new way of being not only does he feel more relaxed but he’s made a new friend.
