Rabbit and the Motorbike --A Book about Finding Bravery

In Buddhist nun and author Pema Chodron’s book Comfortable with Uncertainty, Ani Pema tells the story of a little girl who is being chased by tigers—tigers in front of her, tigers behind her—but decides to stop running in order to pick a wild strawberry and enjoy eating it. The point of the story is that there will always be things to be afraid of, but that shouldn’t stop us from enjoying the adventure of life.

Here’s a gorgeous and whimsical book for young children about discovering the beauty of the world—and about stepping out of our comfort zones in order to see it. In Rabbit and the Motorbike, Rabbit never leaves his home turf. He’s comfortable there. It’s a certain thing. But he loves hearing the adventure stories of his friend Dog, who ventures for miles along country roads on his motorbike. One day, Dog moves on. Rabbit, in his grief, must decide if he’s going to live his life in his comfort zone—or if he’s going to allow himself to be inspired by his adventurous and departed friend, face his fears, and go on adventures of his own.

Rabbit lived in a quiet filed of wheat that he never left—even though there was a road. And even though he dreamed he did every night.
